Learning more about my hair.

It's Saturday afternoon, and I'm sitting in my living room in Box Braids and a Silk Bonnet. I've actually been wearing these braids since Thursday night, and since I haven't had to leave the house....I decided not to unbraid my hair. However, this morning I woke up and my scalp was itching a tad bit and I remembered what I learned from my stylist....I have dry scalp...but honestly, I had no idea what that meant....so I decided to google it.

Dandruff flakes are actually dead skin cells that naturally fall off the scalp — more so if you scratch. Many people think that a dry scalp is synonymous with dandruff, but either a dry scalp or an overly oily scalp can cause excess cells to clump and fall off, forming dandruff flakes. A number of skin conditions and other causes can make your scalp flaky.
Some factors that can increase the risk of dandruff include:
  • Heredity
  • Hormonal changes, like puberty
  • Excess alcohol consumption
  • Eating high-sugar, spicy, or high-salt foods
  • Lack of nutrients like fatty acids and vitamin B
  • Weather changes
  • Stress
WHAT???? Puberty? Spicy food and Salt?? GEEZE...is that my problem!!! Because I REFUSE to think its hormonal changes....hahahaha I'd like to think I am still 21....shewwww!!! But umm yea, this is another one of the moments where I am sitting here REMINDED that I've gotta do better with understanding me. Me as it pertains to: My hair, Skin, and Body (what I am putting in my mouth with a fork).
I think we spend most of our lives dibbling and dabbling into actually doing research to learn more about how to take care of ourselves....but over the past couple of weeks and having my first large Curly Hair Expo I've realized that I need to take some time at least once a week to learn some stuff especially if I plan to live a long healthy life, raise a family and inspire/encourage attendees at Return of the Curls.

Earlier this morning CurlyNuGrowth mentioned her problem with Dry Scalp as well and offered her recommendation....
I may try this soon...but for now I've got EVOO, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil and Argan Oil...so Ill let ya know.
